The prevalence of Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders has increased exponentially since Autism was first introduced as a disability category in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990. The purpose of this workshop is to provide information regarding the current research-based understanding of Autism, along with a review of changes to the definition of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the DSM-5 and how these changes impact educational evaluations for Autism. This workshop will also review in detail the psychometric qualities of specific tests and assessments commonly used by school psychologists for Autism assessment. Finally, a recommended model for identifying Autism in the schools will be presented. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of Autism, learn the psychometric qualities of various Autism assessment instruments, and be able to choose an appropriate test battery for a child suspected of having Autism.
